I catch many many small panfish through the ice and have always used forcept clamps (with finger holes)to unhook them. That means removing gloves each time so my fingers can fit the clamp holes. And that is a pain on colder days. The mitten clamps can be used without removing gloves. I can't wait to start using them. They look like they will work really great. The only concern I have is the clip mechanism. The hook-part is rather tiny and under lots of pressure. I can't believe it doesn't bend or break, but it is made of hardend steel. If it breaks when you don't realize it, the tool could be lost, so I'm going to buy a zinger or retractable key holder. Even if the hook does break, it should still be a great tool and better than the ones with finger holes.
Its one of those tools that I wish I had extras. I'll probably buy more if they go on sale. 4 3/4" size seems ideal for using on small bluegills but are sufficiently long for reaching deep into crappie slabs...Read more
