First of all, it's a 5/6 Wt fly rod, and not a 4/5. That's okay, because I ordered 5 wt fly line to go with the rod. It is not as responsive as a graphite rod, but it is much more forgiving of casting errors. So far, I have had only one wind knot. Also, I originally learned to fly cast using a fiberglass rod when I was twelve, back in 1960. Thus the rod handles very nicely from my perspective. Being 7 feet, it is a good size to work the very few small streams in southern California that have trout. Most casts are less than 25 feet and the low-hanging trees and other types of brush favor a shorter rod. Of less importance, I like having the 18-inch scale. I can quickly measure the length of a trout before releasing it.

I was pleasantly surprised by this rod - of course, my expectations were low for a sub $30 fly rod. It certainly has a different feel if you are used to graphite rods, but I found it okay to cast. It may not be the rod for everyone, but I like the fact that at that price, I don't need to worry about it! ...just throw it in the canoe or behind the seat of the truck.

This is the worst fly rod for sale on the market today, very difficult to cast, you can save up a few more dollars and buy a TFO or a Cabelas and get an inexpensive superbly casting fly rod, remember you generally get what you pay for...
