I have actually just gotten this rod for free as a replacement rod for my old HMG 866 that I bought back in 1985.
For whatever reason it broke on me while I was fishing, was about a 2 lb perch and the rod snapped about 6" above the ferrule.

This rod doesn't have fancy wrapping or a lot of glitz. What it does have is a sweet action and great balance. Personally, I could give a rip about the esthetics. What I care most about is how a rod casts and how it fishes. This rod does both of those things and does them beautifully.
