Save your money. These Martin combos are junk. If you are just starting out fly fishing the last thing you need is a rod/reel combo that is garbage. It will make the whole experience that much harder and more frustrating. There are starter kits to be had that are of decent quality. Look for a Reddington, Temple Fork Outfitters or Ross. Reddington is generally the cheapest and the reels can be a bit so-so, however, the rods are good quality and a great first rod for a beginner to learn on.

Whoever "broke it before right after taking it out of the box" is clearly incompetent and shouldn't wield a fishing pole in the first place. This pole is durable, well built and the same goes for the reel. Comes with some pretty reliable fly line and backing. All I've really replaced so far is the leader. I've caught large mouth, brookies and browns on this thing and none have been a match for my first fly rod.

Buy it dudes. The people who gave this a low rating are probably seasoned fly fisherman with their preferences and quirks. If you want to LEARN how to fly fish, buy this rod. It's been 3 weeks, I've used it every day and caught fish up to 4 lbs who have fought hard, and the only thing that is hurtin is the fish's lips.
