4.0 out of 5 stars FAST STICK!!!, September 29, 2011
This review is from: OKUMA GUIDE SELECT 2 & 4 PC LIFETIME WARRANTY FLY RODS (Misc.)
I have the 4-piece 5 weight. Okuma lists it as "moderate fast", but IMO it's ultra fast.....if there is such a thing! This rod is a very fast action stick that throws a lot of line with authority. I use it specifically in lakes with an Okuma Magnitude 5/6 reel loaded with SA Wet Cel type IV sink line. It throws that line effortlessly. It's a strong rod, too, handling 16-18" hard charging, deep diving arctic char as easily as my 6 weight rods. It has a beautiful gloss gray blank with black chrome hardware. The cork is excellent. My only complaint is the lack of a hook keeper. Seriously, they didn't build one into this rod. First fly rod I've ever seen without one! But as this rod is a performer, I've been able to overlook the hook keeper thing, and will be getting another at the first opportunity!

5.0 out of 5 stars Okuma gets it right, September 18, 2011

Okuma Guide Select 3wt.
Its light weight when matched with a slv 3-4 wt reel. Casts are comperable to my Full 5wt Slv SetUp running Scientific Anglers Sharkskin. No SharkSkin for this light weight rod however I am Running Lefty Kreh in Wt4 with no problems over weighting this rod. Buy one for the money you cannot go wrong. Okuma makes the best rods at a price advantage over the rest. I really think the rods are under priced. What are you doing reading this review click buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars a solid 3.5 fly rod 7wt 2 piece, September 16, 2011
It took me awhile to get use to this rod I experimented with different fly lines, and discovered that this unit really casts sinking line like a rocket out to 120 feet, now that was suprising but the rod felt heavy, still the way this fly rod throws sinking line is just short of amazing, it would be perfect for steelhead when you want to get that fly down to your fish right away, this rod casts well when you over line it, it does come with a rod tube and a lifetime warranty no one offers these features for this price, I also had no problem fitting different size fly reels to this rod, I put my largest spey reel a 11/12 Redington on this rod it fit fine, this may not be as sophisticated as your $650-$1100 fly rods but this puppy gets the job done much better than I expected it to do, then again I would not pay $650 bucks for a fly rod even if I won the lottery, at most there is only about $35-$50 worth of material in these super expensive sticks, I can build my own for much less and I...Read more
