Product Review

Winston's fresh and saltwater Boron II-MX series. The MX stands for maximum, as in maximum power, distance and fish fighting capabilities. The 4, 5 and 6-weights are slightly stiffer and faster than their Boron IIx counterparts; the 7 through 12-weights are true ôcannonsö that can handle sinking Fly Lines, big flies and adverse wind conditions. While all eleven models feature faster actions and are capable of making long distance, 100+ foot casts, they will amaze you with their responsiveness and light weight. The rods come with a cork fighting butt and our new double locking reel seat. Whether youÆre chucking 6'' long ôgroceryö flies or battling fly rod humbling winds, a Boron II-MX will get the job done.

This review is from: Winston Boron II-MX Fly Rod (Misc.)
I am a long time Sage customer with 10 Sages in various weights, and I had no intention of even looking at another brand. This all changed when I was in Vancouver before a Salmon trip, and talking to a guy in a fly shop. I mentioned that my heavy Sages were functional rods but not a pleasure to use, and he gave me a Boron II-MX 9ft 10 wt.

This rod feels so light and so comfortable in the hand I thought it was a seven weight and I was so taken by it I bought it on the spot. The in store potential was more than matched by its performance on the river where it was a lot easier to cast than my Sage, and easier to keep casting all day. It fights fish well and has made me want more Winstons.
